BAB Double A 08-08-1917 Home | | | Breaking News | | Tuesday, August 7th, 1917: Great Day for Coles! 5 Hits! All game long Dunn's River's Cad Coles was rattling the walls at Ballpark of Summersville and banging out base hits against the Henderson Law. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Dormice had a 7-5 victory.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 31-year-old right fielder said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this."
C. Coles hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 13th.
This year Coles has socked 133 hits in 427 at-bats for a .311 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .352 pace and his totals also include 49 RBIs and 53 runs scored. | | Monday, August 6th, 1917: Perritt Twirls No-Hitter Against Lexington The North East Harpoons relied on no-hit stuff from Pol Perritt to defeat the Lexington Pulverizers 3-0 at Field of the Harpoons.
"It's quite a thrill," a candid Perritt told the media afterward, "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the records, he stopped Lexington cold, with no hits, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 1 batters, facing only 29 batters.
Perritt told SION in a postgame interview, "Games like this are something special. They don't come around very often, if ever. I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I just tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They are everywhere you look."
In a jovial mood, his manager kiddingly told the reporters, "He definitely made it easy for me today. I didn't have any great decisions to make like I usually have to do. Didn't even have to come up with a pinchhitter. I love it when my pitchers pitch a no-hitter."
For the year, Perritt has collected no saves in no relief appearances. He has also rung up 84 strikeouts and 84 walks in 315 innings while registering a 3.20 ERA and a 15-17 won-lost mark. | | Monday, August 6th, 1917: SL2's Best Player Named The hottest bat of the week belonged to Lexington third baseman Art Brouthers.
He went on a rampage last week against SL2 hurlers and rapped out 13 hits in 25 at-bats for a .520 average while hitting 1 home run, driving in 3 runs and scoring 4 runs -- numbers quite worthy of the Sub League 2 Player of the Week trophy.
Brouthers was honored today at a press conference.
This year Brouthers has batted at a .378 pace with 14 hits, 1 home run, 4 RBIs and scored 4 times. | | | | | Today's Games | | Sub League 1 | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Tampa (42-67, Road: 17-38) | Barview (73-36, Home: 40-15) | 7:05 pm | RHP W.Whittaker (1-7, 2.68 ERA) | RHP E.Lafitte (11-6, 2.93 ERA) | | Saint Paul (57-52, Road: 27-28) | Louisville (53-56, Home: 30-25) | 7:05 pm | LHP R.Sommers (15-5, 2.92 ERA) | RHP D.Crutcher (10-10, 2.01 ERA) | | Mission Viejo (58-51, Road: 26-26) | Raleigh (48-61, Home: 27-25) | 7:05 pm | | RHP J.Quinn (14-15, 3.71 ERA) | | Corpus Christi (59-50, Road: 31-24) | Laredo (46-63, Home: 25-30) | 7:05 pm | RHP E.Dent (15-6, 2.98 ERA) | RHP B.McGraw (0-7, 3.32 ERA) | | Sub League 2 | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Anaheim (59-50, Road: 31-24) | Newtown (50-59, Home: 24-31) | 7:05 pm | | | | North East (51-58, Road: 27-28) | Lexington (58-51, Home: 33-22) | 7:05 pm | LHP H.Coveleski (14-14, 2.71 ERA) | LHP H.Thormahlen (1-0, 3.00 ERA) | | Dunn's River (54-55, Road: 27-25) | Henderson (39-70, Home: 18-34) | 7:05 pm | LHP L.Tyler (14-23, 3.77 ERA) | | | Yankees AA (59-50, Road: 31-24) | Shreveport (66-43, Home: 34-21) | 7:05 pm | RHP B.Hitt (2-3, 3.24 ERA) | RHP H.Finneran (14-5, 2.20 ERA) | | |
